You're the 1, Goldilocks

I grew up in a family where birthdays and other special occasions are always celebrated. Food and family go so well together that's why everybody looks forward to these parties and celebrations.

That's why when my only son turned one, there was one thing that I made sure we had on the table - Basti's very first Goldilocks cake.

My little guy turned 1 on November 11, 2004 and we held a simple party for very close family members to celebrate this special milestone in my only son's life. Food was more than enough for the guests we invited and since Basti was so into Mickey Mouse during those days, I decided to get our favorite mocha cake with the Mickey Mouse toy on it. The beautiful birthday cake was the centerpiece of our table and it made everything just perfect.

We sang "Happy Birthday" to the birthday boy and helped him blow his first birthday candle. We all shared the scrumptious food and had so much fun enjoying this momentous occasion. The event was a blast and as always, Goldilocks was there to share our delight. This is the reason why you're the 1 Goldilocks because without you, Basti's first birthday wouldn't be as memorable and special as we all wanted it to be.

Curse of the Washed Car

Since time immemorial, my car's been known to be rained upon every single time it gets all washed and cleaned up. And for the past two weeks, the "curse" has not failed - not even one single bit.

It's one of the reasons why I don't wash my car that often. It pains me (and my pocket) whenever I have it washed and waxed. It's weird but somehow I still can't understand the logic behind it. 12 long years and it hasn't faltered - not even one single time.

I'm thinking: What if I install rain guards on it? Will it break the so-called "curse?" Papa's car has them installed on his car and it doesn't rain when he has his car cleaned. Do you think that can do the trick since I'm like preparing for rain that way?

Nah, I know I'm just rambling but maybe I could give it a try. We'll see.

Friday Fill Ins

Graphic image by Tonya

1. The last thing I ate was water and churros con chocolate.

2. Food is something I recently bought.

3. When it rains, it definitely pours really hard.

4. Papa was the first person I talked to today.

5. Hugs are comforting.

6. Pillows provide extra comfort.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to prepare my stuff for tomorrow's trip, tomorrow my plans include my first Enchanted Kingdom trip and Sunday, I want to catch up on my e-mails, extra work and other stuff!

Shopping Spree

How I wish I could go on a shopping spree. I'd love to get hold of some new pairs of shoes and some more clothes, particularly dress pants that I can use for work.

Being plus-sized, I do have to set aside a little more so that I could afford the cost of a good pair of pants. There's only one shop here in Manila where I could buy the perfect pair for me. It's costly so I need to save up for it.

It's a good thing that I have saved a lot already on tops, blouses and dresses. Thanks to my neighbor who sells these surplus items straight from the factories. Oh yeah, I do shop at factory outlets and avail of export overruns. I've learned how to get great buys and not having to go over budget for it. Besides, this is the best place I could get great pieces for my wardrobe without having to spend more than 10,000 pesos in one retail therapy session.

Now, how I wish I could get a good pair of pants from them. But for now, I have to go to my favorite retail shop and get it from there.

Sluggish

I've been rethinking about work and I've had this sluggish feeling for the past month or so.

It's not good when I have to drag myself out of bed to go to work. I have to admit that I'm bored and I'm looking for something better and more profitable to do.

That's why I'm enjoying the opportunities coming my way now. I write on the side to earn more. It can get tough because of the demands but at least this is totally different from what I'm doing at work.

I just hope things will be back to normal soon. I can't believe I've gone this far to keep myself going - despite the final warning I have to live with until it falls off in September (arrrggggh!).

Basti's Love

Just like any other kid his age, Basti is still so much into swing sets and toys. But he has one other love. Basti's so into the newest Darna on the telly, Marian Rivera.

You'll really never know how much he adores her. He blushes when I tease him about it. For a 5-year old toddler, he seems serious about her crush on her. So much so that he watched the GMA 7 anniversary special recently held at the Araneta Coliseum with his grandparents. As was told to me, he wanted to get up on stage and hug the girl. Oh wow, so much for being so into this pretty girl. LOL!

And I guess my little guy's just lucky. I told the story to Papa and apparently, one of his students happened to be at that event because she works for GMA's production and she regularly works with Marian. She promised to get Basti an autographed photo of Marian. And I got it today.

My sweetheart blushed and the smile on his face was just priceless. He doesn't want to have it framed because he said that he doesn't want it to be seen by other people. Now, talk about being possessive. LOL!

I was told that Papa's student will arrange for a meet and greet during one of Marian's scheduled tapings or dubbing sessions. I can't wait - and this will be a big surprise for the little avid fan.

Excitement

With all the hassle and stress I'm having right now, I really think that I should get a good vacation at the soonest possible time.

It was just sad that my supposed weekend getaway two weeks ago got botched and I ended up rebooking the room that I got from one of the good travel deals offered by the hotel where I got to stay for Holy Week last April. It's just good that they were able to give me a room for the schedule I preferred.

I haven't gone out with my friends for the longest time and this would be a good opportunity for me to bond with them and catch up on each others' lives. I know that an overnight stay wouldn't be really enough to relax and just enjoy the place but I'm sure we will be going home with more secrets about each other and a whole lot more of good memories for us to cherish.
